In our travels we often stay in homes or hotels whose décor we love and want to imitate in our own homes. The following feature project, the makeover of a young girl’s bedroom was inspired by the décor of a hotel where the family stayed in Switzerland.
Designer Ronnie Harmon was presented with a photograph and asked to recreate the look and feel of the “adjective” boudoir. Additionally, since this young girl will soon be heading off to college, this room needed to be designed to easily transition into a guest room.
Teaming with Ronnie, we helped him complete the look with custom draperies and an area rug. In styling this room, he chose pieces that are youthful yet transitional, pieces that transform well to a guest suite and also transcend future trends.
Starting with the walls that were already painted a soft blue gray, Ronnie chose a ‘modern’ Damask style wallpaper from Kravet for an accent wall. The soft gray and white pattern paper not only compliments the painted walls, but provides a beautiful backdrop for the upholstered bed.
The fabric used for the draperies is a beautiful embroidery from Stout Fabrics that offers detail and texture to complete the room in a playful way.
This large room really needed an area rug to ground the beautiful furnishings and provide softness and warmth under foot. While not captured in these photos, a wool rug from Surya’s Artist Studio collection in cream tones was the perfect choice.
