Since we’re all spending more time at home these days — whether working from home, going to school, or just refraining from too many public outings — many of us are looking at our homes differently and in particular, our windows. For us, the holiday rush has started early and not because people are readying their homes for the holidays, but because with the additional time spent at home, the need for function and comfort is more apparent and window coverings offer much needed privacy or light control.
Window Placement — The side of the house they’re on and the direction your windows face may dictate your need for privacy or light control. Are you exposed to a road or close to your neighbors? Do you have an East facing bedroom window? Does the family room face South or West? Are the windows easily reachable? All of these things should be considered when determining your needs for privacy, light control and ease of operation.
Mounting options — The depth of your windows will determine if it’s possible to install window shades inside the window casing. A 3″ casing depth will fit most shade headrails, leaving your trim molding around the window exposed. Don’t have the room for an inside mount? There are several shades with low profile headrails that will fit unobtrusively on the window frame.
